Packing...

Chores are the things that you must do to enable you to have a happy life. Packing is one of the biggest chores.

Procrastination would be the word that describes the packing experience for me. Often, I find myself stuffing the suitcase with my travel essentials hours before we have to leave and often continue to append the list and thus, further fill the already at-capacity suitcase. Furthermore, I still forget things. My last adventure I forgot to pack socks and this time I forgot to pack my headphones.

Packing also requires a certain amount of clairvoyance and, while I'm not a worrier, I am a preparer and trying to plan for every eventuality is daunting. I guess, I don't want to feel like I was missing something when I have it at home, like socks or headphones.

For certain trips, where there are reasons to dress up all fancified, I have trouble deciding on what kind of look I want to go for. I'm kind of a clothes horse when it comes to dressing up and like to have a style to settle on. The kicker is that it's very mood dependant and I like to have the flexibility of choice as close to the last minute as possible. The packing me and the wanting to get dressed me sometimes don't see eye-to-eye.

But beyond clothes, there are other items. My camera is a must have. Well, my cameras are must haves. Of course, my computer and phone have to go. So that means chargers and cords and batteries and all the inventory that comes along with that.

Sometimes it's exciting to pack because that means an adventure is on the way! But often it's replaced by contemplation and concern, coupled with my gift of procrastination.
